Message Im a junior at OSU majoring in Electrical and Computer engineering. Like many other engineering studens I know, I have an interest in automotive engineering. Most all of them though are in Mechanical Engineering. It's pretty competitive, and I have an interest in electronics and Computers as well, so I figured I'd tackle it from a different angle. I'd like to get my foot in the door working on electrical control systems/engine management.

Most the guys in my Analog and Digital circuitry courses all want to work on computer hardware. I'm hoping that just mean I'm in a unique, but needed job niche, and not the wrong major. Out of curiousity, are there any other EE or ECE students out there interested in pursuing automotive applications? Anyone out there currently working in the field?

I've been thinking about all this because I went to an engineering expo today and spoke with a lot of companies. It was educational. Aside from getting a lifetime stock of free pens, caps, and trinkets, I learned some things. Most the companies hire through co-op/internships. Gpa requirement was only a 3.0. There was a lot of govt defense/weapon companies there looking for people to design missle guidance systems, radar systems, homeland security etc. But thats not as much my thing. There were some automotive companies as well. I talked with Toyota, they say they do most of there R&D overseas, us was mostly just manufacturing, but Honda was there and they do a lot of research and development here in ohio 25 minutes from my house. My X-girlfriends step dad worked there assembling prototype cars by hand. They seem like a good solid company to work for. We've had a lot of hondas in the family, good reliable cars. They will probally be around for quite some time too. Unfortunately no Nissan reps there though.

Well anyways, just wanted to start a thread about Engineering jobs. Im curious about what kind of carrer plan, internships/Co-ops others out there have. Also does anybody have any input about what companies they'd reccomend employment with?
